In-Home Postpartum Steam or Sitz Bath $175
Postpartum steams and sitz baths are used around the world* to soothe, heal and support the birthing mother in the weeks post-birth. By caring for yourself in gentle and loving ways, you extend your ability to continue to care for others in gentle and loving ways.
For your private, at-home healing session, you will have the option to choose either from a postpartum steam, also known as vaginal or Yoni steaming, or a postpartum sitz bath.
A postpartum steam is healing ritual where the woman sits above a bowl of steeped herbs and steaming water. The warm and comforting steam brings blood flow to help heal to the swollen tissues and promotes rest and relaxation. The steam is set up in your bathroom, using a stainless steel bowl, gentle herbs and your toilet.
A postpartum sitz bath is a shallow, warm bath with salts and herbs to help promote the healing of swollen tissues and release fluid in the body. Depending on how many days postpartum you are and the recommendation of your medical provider, the bath may be shallow or full.
During your visit, I will:
- Create a spa-like atmosphere in your chosen bathroom
- Show you how to choose and steep herbs
- Sit with you to talk out postpartum challenges or questions
- Provide newborn care and support
- Leave you with your own tools to recreate this relaxing experience again and again
Visit is $175 for those within an 20-mile radius.
*While we can’t know where the practice first originated, it is important to recognize the Mayan, South Korean, Sudanese, Cambodian, Eritrean and Haitian communities for their role in passing down this wisdom, keeping it alive and growing today. I had the privilege of learning this ancient practice directly from Mayra Martinez De Garay, an incredible midwife from Veracruz, Mexico. During my training with her, I was also taught the art of rebozo in the Mexican tradition and the postpartum “closing of the bones” ceremony.
