About Me

my life's work

My journey into this work began, in part, with my first pregnancy and birth in 2014.

After an unexpected C-section, difficulty healing and a challenging breastfeeding experience, I struggled in my postpartum. I felt alone, overwhelmed and often unsure.

There was an endless and confusing tsunami of information and I found it hard to navigate my new reality without clear guidance or affirmation of my choices.

With my next child, I felt more prepared for my birth and was so happy to have a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) but in the months following the birth, I still struggled a lot. I found it nearly impossible when my partner quickly returned to work and I was left to navigate life with my toddler and newborn.

All around me I watched my friends, coworkers and strangers online struggle over and over and over.

For years I continued quietly reading and absorbing, learning and working to understand birth in it’s historical, cultural, social and current contexts. I have never been so drawn into a topic in my life. All the free time I could find with two young children and a consuming career, went to thinking, reading and talking about birth (special shout out to my husband for enduring *many* long birth discussions — xo).

Hesitant to leave the communications career I had built but constantly pulled toward my passion, I decided I’d just “dip my toes in” and took a holistic postpartum doula course.

Two months later, I quit my career and have devoted my life to serving families through birth and postpartum support and care.

Trained by two remarkable holistic-focused homebirth midwives, Whapio Diane Bartlett and Mayar Moondragon, I have earned two certifications in birth and two in the postpartum period.

In addition to these certifications, I have taken courses and training in newborn and infant sleep, prenatal and postpartum nutrition, prenatal and postpartum herbal care, breathwork and more.

I have been caring for children and families for more than 25 years, nannying throughout both my undergraduate (BA in anthropology) and graduate degrees (MA in writing, rhetoric and discourse).

My winding path has led me here. Supporting families as they journey through birth and postpartum is my life’s calling and soul’s work, I truly love what I do through and through.

I look forward to serving you and your family.
